Teething can make eating hard. Learn which foods soothe sore gums, what to skip, cold relief ideas, and how to keep a teething baby fed and comfortable.Choosing feeding gear for the stage you are actually in
Baby utensils should meet a baby where they are. Long handled feeding spoons make parent led purees easier from around six months, while the leafy training spoons flex to scoop from any angle and stand upright so the tip never touches the table. Suction plates and bowls anchor to smooth highchair trays until a parent releases the tab, and the silicone bib has a deep pocket to catch what drops.
Do I need a parent spoon and a baby spoon, or just one?
They do different jobs. The long handled spoon gives an adult reach and control across a tray, with a shallow flexible tip that delivers a small lickable bite. The training spoon is sized for a baby to hold and is the one that gets self feeding started. Most tables end up with both on the go at once, one in each pair of hands.
Will a suction plate actually stay on our highchair?
Suction needs a smooth, non porous, flat surface to seal against. It works on most plastic highchair trays and on a wiped down table. It does not hold on woven placemats, textured trays or wood with an open grain. The seal releases when a parent lifts the tab, which is the point: a baby pulling on the rim should not be able to launch it.
